“All I can say is wow,” Smith remarked in an interview with Rich Eisen. “Unfortunately for the Cowboys, we will be losing a great football player. And unfortunately for Zeke, this is going to be the topic for the next two months.”

Smith told Eisen that he hopes this can be a “learning experience” for Elliott.

“You have to look at it from the standpoint of, ‘I am an impactful player. And now I can’t have an impact, because I’m on the sideline.’ And being on the sideline is tough. You’re not injured. You physically can go out there and help. There is nothing you can do.”
